Consolacion is located approximately 12 kms. North of Cebu City. It is bounded in the North by the Municipality of Lilo-an; in the South by the City of Mandaue; in the West by the Municipality of Balamban. The Municipality of Consolacion used to be a component barangay of Mandaue, providing much of the labor requirements of the big City. Consolacion became a separate town in 1871. However in 1902 and 1903, the town was unable to maintain her status as an independent municipality and was turned over to Mandaue again.

After a petition for its restoration into a separate town was again granted by the Governor, the Municipality of Consolacion was born again.

Consolacion is subdivided into 21 barangays distributed on its approximately 3,900 Hectares area and space.

Seventy percent of the total area of the town is above or highland mountains and eighteen percent for shore land. The contours are irregular and the highest spot elevation is about 500 meters above sea level.
